Maintain good posture.

Use chairs with low-back support or straight backs.

A small pillow or rolled towel used to support the lower back eases pressure while sitting or driving.

Do not ride or drive for long periods in a vehicle; take frequent breaks to walk around.

Avoid standing for extended periods; wear shoes without heels.

Use a firm mattress.

If you find yourself doing heavy lifting, take appropriate precautions while lifting and bending.

Moderate exercise to strengthen back muscles is advisable as lax and weak muscles predispose you to backaches.
