Joint Pain Self Help

  • Rest the Joint

  • If suspected fracture, immobilize and seek medical attention

  • Where possible raise the joint to avoid further swelling

  • Wrap a moist heating pad around the painful joint for 15-20 minutes to relieve chronic joint pain.

  • Apply heat to relieve chronic pain and ice to relieve acute pain

  • Exercise within the normal range of your body without over-stretching

  • Massage the joint

  • Take a pain medication to relieve the pain

  • See your doctor if the pain does not improve in 3 days or worsens
