Health Cash Plans Overview
With increasing pressure on our finances and healthcare costs rising all the time, more and more people are turning to Health Cash Plans to help them budget for essential family healthcare.
What is a health cash plan?
Everyone wants the best for their family so healthcare appointments are unavoidable, but with an NHS filling now costing as much as £45.60 and an average pair of glasses likely to set you back £125, the question is, how do you pay for these unexpected costs.
Health Cash Plans are an affordable way to budget for your family’s everyday health costs as you go along. Very simply you pay a fixed amount every month and are entitled to claim cash back on a wide range of healthcare treatments, from dental check- ups and new glasses to physiotherapy and complementary health.
Health Cash Plans are geared towards day to day health costs and are different from private health insurance which is aimed to cover you for more serious conditions and or accidents.
Typically there are different limits on how much money you can claim back depending on the level of cover you choose.
How much does a health cash plan cost?
Health Cash Plans vary in cost depending on the level of cover you would like. Some start from as little as £8 and go through to around £30 per month.
What is usually covered in a health cash plan?
- Dental bills, dental check-ups, fillings, hygienist visits
- Optician bills, eye tests, contact lenses and spectacles
- Cash towards therapies including physiotherapy/osteopathy and chiropody
- Cash towards many other everyday healthcare costs; osteopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture and homeopathy treatments
- May include hospital in-patient stays and Health and Counseling Helplines
- May include consultations with a qualified Specialist or Surgeon
How do you receive your money
With a Health Cash Plan you will typically pay for your healthcare appointments and treatment upfront. The plan simply refunds some or all of the money you have had to pay out. All you have to do is provide your provider with a receipt for your treatment and fill in a claim form.
The Advantages of a Health Cash Plan
There are many advantages to a Health Cash Plan. For example, you are not required to have a medical examination before signing up for a Health Cash Plan as you might for a standard health insurance plan. A Health Cash Plan can be used for dental and optical services and treatments in addition to other medical categories, children are usually included in the plan for no additional charge, and your premiums will not increase as you age.
It is important to note that Health Cash Plans are not the same as Private Health Insurance. This type of plan is actually derived from Hospital Cash Plans, but now offer a much broader range of healthcare treatments and services. Health Cash Plans can be used in combination with NHS or private health insurance to cover everyday medical treatments and services not normally covered with the other two aforementioned insurance options.
