Macrolane
Macrolane is a non surgical treatment designed for body sculpting and contouring. It has been approved by the FDA for filling indentations on the body and certain acne scars. Macrolane is used on many parts of the body including the face, breasts, buttocks and calves and can be used to correct minor breast asymmetries without resorting to breast implants.
How Does Macrolane Work?
Macrolane is a thicker, more viscous hyaluronic acid gel. As with other dermal fillers the gel is injected directly into the skin to provide volume.
During treatment a tiny incision is made into the skin. Macrolane gel is injected into the deep layer of skin just above the muscle using a cannula or long needle.
Treatments usually last around 45 minutes. According the manufacturer Macrolane should last for 12 to 18 months but this will depend on the area treated and the amount used.
Results are immediate and patients can usually return to normal activity immediately following treatment. Avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks.
Are There Risks Associated With Macrolane?
Mild swelling tenderness, pain and bruising are fairly common in the five days following treatment. These usually subside within a week. In some cases onset of symptoms may be delayed and may last for longer.
