Flashing Lights 2 Years ago Karma: 0
Hi there. New to this site so hope can get some first hand information from sufferers. My son who is 27 has had flashing lights in his eyes for about 3 weeks now, but does not have any headaches. He did have 1 bad headache which he thinks occured about the time of the onset of his problem. He gets the flashes every day and always in a morning, but they do seem to decrease as the day goes on.The doctor and optician could find no obvious reason for his symptoms. He has been prescribed Migraine tablets which alleviate the problem a little.
Has anyone else had a similar experience ? Thanks in anticipation. Pat

Hi Pat - I get exactly the same symptoms - flashing lights. Sometimes they are small pinpoints of intense light of different colours . Sometimes they are larger more opaque areas of colour that sort of sit over my vision. They usually only last for a second ot two each. These can come with or without a headache.. Is that similar to your son?

I saw a neuro specialist about them a while ago and he diagnosed 'ocular migraine'. This is where you get the visual symptoms of a migraine without the headache. He was fairly relaxed about the diagnosis which frustrated me a little as I was really freaking out at the time. But over the next couple of days I sort of relaxed as it was good that he was sure there was nothing else going on.

I was prescribed propanalol which is a beta blocker I think and used for migraines. Sometimes they help and at other times I just have to deal with the symptoms..

Have you tried identifying triggers, i.e foods, stress etc. People recommended that I do this but I was unable to identify any patterns.

Hope your son get's better. I know first hand how frightening and scary it can be. Bee
